Winter Pikachu diorama built papercraft

We finally got some snow here and I am so happy! Been waiting for a real batch of it forever and it’s here and I am LOVING it (; Winter scenes are just so gorgeous, got to love it. And since I already released the winter Pikachu papercaft:

I decided to assemble it as well. You can now see the preview pics of the assembly and enjoy the cozy winter months with me (:

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

As with all of my papercrafts, you start from top and build to bottom.

For the Pikachu:

Assemble the 2 ears separately and then start making the top of the head, attach the 2 ears and make the whole head.

Now you assemble the 2 arms and 2 feet separately. Once you have the 2 arms, glue them on the head you made and build the remaining body till you have the 2 holes for the feet left and the bottom piece without flaps to close the body. Glue the 2 feet inside the holes and let it dry completely.

Now you can either just glue the 2-sided tail on the body, or make a small incision in the back to glue the tail end on the inside of the body (*Pro-tip 1: additionally, you can put wire inside the tail to make the tail movable and bending). When you attached the tail, close the body with the last piece and glue it on.

Now you can build the hat and scarf as well. The hat would be best made from bottom to top, so at the end you only attach the puff on the hat. For the scarf, glue it together, but leave the last 2 flaps at the back unattached, so you can slide it on the Pikachu. Slide the scarf around the neck, and glue it together on the Pikachu and then attach the 2 dangly parts on the front and back. Same goes for the hat, since it can be slid on his 2 ears and head at the right angle, and doesn’t need any glue to hold it in place.

The snowball is also made from top to bottom, since I always position my flaps that way and it’s a simple sphere shape, so pretty easy.

If build accurately, the Pikachu should be able to stand on the flat foot and the leaning foot, since it is light enough. If you are worried about this, you can also put in additional small weights inside the legs when you glue them inside before closing the body (*Pro-tip 2: for smaller parts and holes to fill in I always use gravel. Put a bit inside the legs and test it, if they are heavy enough, add a bit more if not, and close it then).

For the Snowman Pikachu:

Assemble the 2 ears separately and then start making the top of the head, attach the 2 ears on and make the whole head. Build the remaining body one stripe at a time downward and close the body with the last lid part that hasn’t got any flaps.

For the scarf, glue it together, but leave the last 2 flaps at the back unattached, so you can slide it on the Pikachu. Slide the scarf around the neck, and glue it together on the Pikachu and then attach the 2 dangly parts on the front and back.

*Note that I only assembled the main Pikachu and Pikachu snowman from the papercraft diorama. The whole papercraft also includes the stand with 2 bushes and the pine tree.

Hope you like the snowy winter idyll diorama. Since it marks the 30th anniversary of Pokemon this year, it will probably be a Pokemon-heavy year for my papercraft designs, but we’ll see what they have to announce in February and we’ll go from there (;

Enjoy and happy crafting~

Princess Mononoke papercraft

Starting off the new year with a new papercraft I finished about 2 weeks ago and was in the making for months XD Sometimes you just get a great idea but the drive isn’t there to see it through to the end with all the extra work around, but it’s finished now and more awesome than I first imagined as well! It sets the standards for 2026 for myself (;

****************************

Everybody that knows my work for a long time now knows that I absolutely adore Studio Ghibli movies and the characters in each one. And because I had this one in my mind for a long time to make a project out of and I always have so much stuff to do, I am absolutely thrilled that the papercraft is now FINALLY finished and I could make a really awesome “Princess Mononoke” papercraft, riding to battle with her wolf bother (:

**************

The papercraft is unfolded to 30 cm and has 12 pages to print (4 of them being optional double-sided print pages for a colored inner side of her mask, coat and dress.

It consists of a separate 3D San model (with optional 2D or 3D hands), a separate wolf model, her 3D spear and a optional mask and coat for San as well.

The hair is made in 2D flat layers, so it really looks like real hair. Since she does have a dress, you assemble the upper torso with the dress first, and then make the legs separately to glue them together later on, so it’s easier to fix her on the wolf mount. The wolf mount is one of her wolf brothers, and not Moro her mother, because she rides them in the movie as well and they are smaller than the wolf goddess.

*NOTE: The papercraft is hard to make, since there are smaller pieces and a lot of fur on the wolf mount as well. So, I only suggest this papercraft for really experienced papercrafters only.

I hope you like the scene, I really spent ages making it just right, so it really has the feel of the anime itself. Do go watch the anime (again, if you watched it already, because you can watch it 1000 of times without getting bored). It is a beautiful yet so sad story of human ego and the opposing raw, wild nature that consumes yet heals and soothes your soul at the same time.

Enjoy and happy crafting~
