Hoshino Ai (Oshi no Ko) papercraft

Since the anime is so hugely popular this season and various people asked me to make a papercraft out of her, here is my take on the main character of the anime series “Oshi no Ko” named, the one and only, “Hoshino Ai”. The anime is very special and the story is somewhat interesting, so might give this one a try yourself if you like a spin-on idol plot anime.

The papercraft is unfolded to 25 cm and has 5 pages to print out. It consist of a 3D model of Ai, as well as some add-ons and details, such as the 3 layered dress of hers (which would need to be pre-bent when assembled to make it look nice and frilly, so that takes a bit of time) the frilly neck again and the side tail on her head etc.

The papercraft itself is an average difficulty to make, since it has some smaller parts with the hands and the time-consuming frills on the whole dress, so I would say it’s a 7/10. On the plus side, the head has an invisible hole in the back hair, so the hair is super simple to make and you always have the included PDO file for the assembly when you purchase it as well, so it can all be seen there.

The papercraft has 2 legs to stand on, so it shouldn’t have any problems standing even without weights inside the feet, but you can always add them just in case. Since the pose is rather linear and stiff, it shouldn’t fall over when you make it, just be sure to adjust the angle when gluing on the legs lastly so it can stand and that’s about it.

Pikachu (Pokemon) redesign built papercraft

Already released my redesigned Pikachu papercraft template I made. You can view the preview of it here:

https://www.deviantart.com/antyyy/art/Pikachu-Pokemon-redesign-papercraft-963773357

And since I also assembled it, you can now view the preview of the built craft and can read on some tips, if you’ll buy the template, so it’s easier for you when you do make it.

*As with any of my papercraft templates, the blank PDO is always included in these files, so you help yourself with the 3D preview in Pepakura to assemble it, but I like to post a bit of experience I have with building papercrafts to maybe make things easier for less experienced papercrafters and share ideas on how to make it simpler :)

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

As with all the papercrafts I make, start with the top/head. I first made the 2 ears separately and then the blue fur parts of the ears. Then you can make your way down the head till the cheeks until you have the whole head assembled.

Next, you can make the 2 hands and the whole tail separately. For making the tail, I really suggest you additionally reinforce it. *Pro tip 1: Additionally reinforce the tail by using some flat wire on the inside. The kind of wire you normally use for holding up flowers in the flower shop work PERFECT. This wire is glued inside a paper-like shell that is flat and that can be glued on like paper, with the same glue, or with some tape. Make sure the wire is a bit longer than the tail, so you can attach the other end of it inside the body when you glue on the tail.

Then you can make your way down the body, glue those first few parts on the neck, and then you can attach the pre-made hands on there. Assemble the back part next and when you have the whole back, glue on the pre-made tail on there and then glue on the other end of the wire you used for reinforcing in on the body before you start the legs, so it’s easier and more accessible if you need to use stronger tape for it to hold.

All that is left is to glue both legs on and then close the whole body with the last bottom part of the body that has no flaps on and you are done.

Additionally, to that, when you glue on the legs part on, you can put in some weights inside them, to make the papercraft stand better, since the tail is quite heavy at the back and you need to weight them down more at the front to make it stand better. *Pro-tip 2: I always say, the best weights I found for papercraft are small pebbles. They are small enough to fit inside the papercraft parts you want to weight down, they don’t rip up the paper or deform it, and at the same time they weight just enough to make the craft stand like an ace. Really neat to use those, trust me and try it :D

Hope you like the papercraft and that it gives you some ideas what all can be commissioned as a papercraft design if you want.

Enjoy and happy crafting~
