Akari (Pokemon Legends -Arceus) built papercraft
Since this week BD and SP are going to be released, I had to start the week with at least one Pokemon papercraft. And what better occasion to do that, since I have also finished my latest Pokemon trainer Akari papercraft I wanted to show.
The whole papercraft probably took me 20 hours to make. Normally I am quicker with these things, but I did try to put a lot more effort into it than normally, since I really wanted to do her the right way. Meaning that I have re-painted all the white edges where the small edge of the paper is still visible, double-glued all critical parts of the craft, made sure to neatly and slowly cut out and glue all the parts, divided the craft into smaller steps to make, so it’s easier to assemble at the end and make smaller steps to motivate myself to do this, etc.
As always, I did start with the face + neck and then the whole back head/hair. Since she has an open ponytail at the back, I closed the head at that part, since it’s the simplest (alternatively you can close the head at the top with the last piece, since she wears the bandana at the end and that part isn’t visible as well). After that, I did the separate 2D bandana and put it around her head. It does stand neatly on her head, but you can use smaller patched of glue to hold it in place as well. Once that is in place, you can glue the 2D 2-sided ears and the bandana bowtie at the back, and the head part is done.
Next, I did the 2 hands separately. Anybody even reading my posts knows that I absolutely hate to make fingers so much, since they are fiddly and tedious to make. I had to force myself to make them to get them ready, which is also a reason why it took me so long to make this papercraft in the first place XD I can’t help it, the fingers have to be there, because else the whole hand parts look like a boxy robot and I hate that even more. So, separate fingers are a must for every good-looking papercraft!
Anyway, when you have your hands ready, glue each of them on the arms. And once you have the arms, you can start on the upper torso of the body. Build the neck part and the first 4 pieces of the torso, and when you have those glued on the already made head, attach the arms on there as well. Then finish the whole torso part till the end of the dress. At this point, we have 2/3 of the papercraft already assembled, and we can add the remaining add-ons on there, such as the kimono belt, the bag and bag belt, and the scarf.
The scarf needs to be glued together on the neck, so be sure to first glue both ends of the scarf together in a somewhat bent shape (because it will be round at the end, so just follow the natural flow of the paper and the flaps and you’ll be fine, nothing hard to do), and when you have that, simply put them around the neck of the part you already did and close it with glue on the last 2 flaps at the back. Then just glue the 2 2-sided scarf ends on there, and it’s done. The scarf ends actually hold really well and don’t need any additional wire in them or anything (at least with my 100g paper I used), so try it out how it works for you.
All that remains now are the legs and the skirt, which we can make separate as well and then glue all of the parts together at the end. Make the skirt separately, and start to make the legs at the feet part, since it’s easier that way. Make the 2 feet, close them at the end, and make your way up the legs. Once both legs are done, glue them together at the hip part and the legs are done. Just glue the add-on shoelaces on the snowshoes, and that’s done.
Now all you have to do is glue the parts together. First, glue the skirt on the hips of the legs. Once that is dry you can put additional weights in them so it holds steady. I used small pebbles in them and it holds really nicely (you can also skip that part if you don’t want to reinforce it, it will stand in any case). Once you got the skirt and the legs joined (and additionally added the weights you are happy with), glue the leg part with the torso part together by adjusting the right angle for them as seen from the assemble PDO you get. Make sure the angle looks nice and you are happy with it and that is stands nicely, and that’s a finish.
All that is left to do is the small fiddly 3D pokeball in her hand, that can stand in the hand without glue (as you can see from the preview pics), or you can also put anything else in her hand, as long as it fits and doesn’t tip the papercraft over. And it’s done!
Really think she looks cute and it made me even more excited for the new features in the upcoming Arceus game that is planned for next year.
