"Make paper, use paper, be the paper." :D
Since I have been pretty invested in this particular anime, and I know there is a 3. season starting now in April, I wanted to make an assembled papercraft of her so I can display her on my “papercraft trophy shelves” :) And since I also made 2 papercraft versions, and the commission one is also for sale, if anybody is interested. Of course, I am talking about the cute bookworm Myne from the anime "Honzuki no Gekokujou" aka "Ascendance of a bookworm".
***This is a premium papercraft that you need to purchase in order to receive the PDF and blank PDO files for assembly. – You can find all information about the PayPal purchase in the provided upper outgoing link.***
As always, I started the built with the face, and made my way back to the hair, and closed it at the neck part. After I got the head, I added the 2D 2-sided ears.
This particular version of the head (since there are 2 hairstyles included) has simple 3D roses, that you build separately, and cut out petal by petal and glue it together to make a simple rose-shaped pin. So, when you got 3 of those made, glue them on the backside of her hair, and the whole head part is done.
Next, I made the hands separately, since I hate making fingers, so I wanted to have that out of the way fast. Nothing really to say here, if you already did finger and hand papercrafts, you know how tedious those can be. So, if you’ll assemble it yourself, take your time and work with either a small stick, tweezers or a needle (like I do to help myself close these small parts).
After the arms, make the sleeves separately. And after those, I always follow-up to make the upper torso. Since she has a dress, and covered legs, you can always divide such papercrafts in at least 2 parts that you can make separately and then glue together. Much faster, easier and satisfying as I see it. I made the 2 sleeves first, I then joined them together with the rest of the upper part of the torse. After I got the torso build at about ½ with the sleeves, I added the arms and just glued them in the right place, and added the pre-made head. Super simple to actually glue the arms this way, since the angle will always be 100% the way you want it, since you can adjust it that way so they are tightly glued at the torso, so the book she holds in her hands doesn’t fall off.
For the head I tucked the neck with the flaps inside the torso hole, and glued/attached the head from the inner side of the torso. The simplest way for me to do it, so I recommend trying it that way (if you cannot get to the flaps from the inside to put glue on them, use a long stick or tweezers like I did. I always help myself with a long plastic chopstick, because it’s long enough, the glue does not stick onto it, and it has the right girth to help with any kind of holes).
After that I built the remaining dress. Once you have the whole dress attached to the sleeves, hands and head, make your way to assemble the 2D dress decoration parts to about 2/3. The last parts need to be glued together on the actual dress, so be aware of that. Else, nothing really hard to make that can’t be build easily.
Once I got all of this done, assemble the legs, which, as said before, can be built separately. Nothing unusual here, just following the edge ID numbers and PDO to put them together, from shoes till legs and hips. And once you have the legs all done, you can add in some last-minute weights (such as small pebbles that I always use to make difficult-standing papercrafts sturdy), and at the end glue both parts at the waist.
All that is left is to choose which book cover you like best, since again the template comes with different option to choose from, and make it like a simple box-design. And if you glued the arms at the right angle, she can hold it in her arms nice and easy, without it falling off or needing glue to stay where it should be. You can also see from my assembly that I didn’t glue the book on her, since it fits neatly inside the arms and sleeves.
And there you go. Your own priestess dress Myne in all her beauty :)
This commission was actually made before the 2. seasons of the anime even aired, so I did all of this with the manga references. And since there was only 1 cover of the manga that had the whole painted blue dress of here showing, I made the sash and 2D accessories of the dress blue-ish, like I thought it was. Watching the anime later on, the belt is actually white-colored. So that’s the only thing bothering me on this papercraft, but I think the light blue also fits the aristocratic-blue-colored dress quite nicely :D it’s my artistic take on the craft, if you want to categorize it that way.
The template itself can be viewed here btw (it includes this as well as the yellow/gold dress):

Enjoy and happy crafting~
