Chihiro (Spirited Away) papercraft

One of Hayao Miyazaki's (or studio Ghibli) best movies is, hands-down, Spirited Away. It is THE anime movie that made me look more in debt into the anime and Japanese culture in general, and I never looked back since :) And I know people just love all the scene with Chihiro and Haku in his dragon-form (which I also did years back), but one of my personal favorite scenes is in the bathhouse, where Kaonoashi (No-Face) shows up and wants to give her gifts and she flat-out refuses to take them! That’s my girl!

So, I decided to make a diorama from that bathhouse scene and make it into a papercraft. And this is it :)

**********************

The papercraft itself is unfolded to a height of 24 cm and has 14 pages to print (with all the optional parts). It consists of a 3D model of Chihiro in her pink jinbei, a 3D Kaonashi with a separate pile of gold to fit into his hands, the 3D background diorama of the onsen, and a separate bucket and brushes and tokens for Chihiro for decoration that fits the scene. Both Chihiro and Kaonashi also have 3D as well as simpler 2D hands to make, so you can decide which ones to use to make the assembly easier.

*** This is a premium papercraft that you need to purchase in order to receive the PDFs and blank, locked PDO file for assembly. – You can buy and download the template here:

You can view all of my available premium papercrafts that are for sale on my Ko-fi page:

Hope you like it! Really wanted to make it look and feel as 100% from the anime with all the details and I put a lot of effort into this.

Enjoy and happy crafting~

Ootori-sama (Spirited Away) built papercraft

This papercraft template preview was already posted on my page here:

https://www.deviantart.com/antyyy/art/Ootori-sama-Spirited-Away-papercraft-953972292

So now you can see how it looks like assembled and I can give some basic assembly tips along the way as well, so here we go.

*As with any of my papercraft templates, the blank PDO is always included in these files, so you help yourself with the 3D preview in Pepakura to assemble it, but I like to post a bit of experience I have with building papercrafts to maybe make things easier for less experienced papercrafters and share ideas on how to make it simpler :)

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

The papercraft consists of many smaller, separate parts, so they can all be made separate and are optional. The main parts are: the 3D Ootori-sama figure, 3 3D heads of Ootori-sama, 2 3D bath buckets, the 3D bath, the 3D stand as well as the 2D accessories 2 washcloths and 1 hat leaf. So you can start with any of them.

The 3D stand is a simple cylinder shape that you can close with the bottom part. It’s bigger so you probably need to fill it up with leftover paper or something sturdier, like cardboard, so it’s nice and flat and holds all the pieces together. That’s the only thing you need to think about with this one.

The bath is also a simple cylinder shape that you also close at the bottom. It doesn’t really need any reinforcement like the stand itself, but you do have the optional 2D splashed of water that you glue on the sides as decoration and that are pre-bent to fit the shape of the bath edge, so that’s the thing you need to watch out here.

Then you have the main Ootori-sama standing model that you best assemble from top to bottom. Make the beak first and when you have that, move to the top of the head and make your way to where the beck is and glue it in there and then make the rest of the head. When you have the head, make the 2 flippers/arms on his side first, separately, and make your way from the head you did till you get to the points where you glue the flippers on and simply close the bird at the bottom. At the end of it, you can add the 2D feet on him and glue the optional cloth in his flipper or glue/put the leaf hat on him and he’s done.

The 3 optional heads you do the same way you did the standing Ootori-sama. Make the beak separately, then start gluing the head from top to bottom and glue the beak on and close it at the end.

And lastly you also have the 2 optional buckets. They consist of 2 parts in the PDO, so make the inner side first. When you have the inner side, glue the edge on first (you will probably need to trim down the flaps a bit to make it fit on there, since the edge is pretty narrow as is) and then glue on the outer part and lastly close it at the bottom. All that is left to do is glue on the optional decorations on the buckets outer side at the right spot (as shown in the PDO) and all the parts are done.

*Note: The papercraft template includes 3 separate Ootori-sama heads in the bath, I just made pictures of 2 of them, but all 3 look the same (and are assembled the same way).

Ootori-sama (Spirited Away) papercraft

One of Hayao Miyazaki's (or studio Ghibli) best movies is, hands-down, Spirited Away. It is THE anime movie that made me look more in debt into the anime and Japanese culture in general, and I never looked back since :) And I know people just love all the scene with Chihiro and Haku in his dragon-form (which I also did years back and I still sell btw: https://www.deviantart.com/antyyy/art/Flying-Chihiro-Spirited-away-papercraft-display-641370934), but my personal favorite deity from the whole move are the duck-chick gods that are called Ootori-sama. And the best scene from the movie for me (which I always wait for when I rewatch the movie), is the scene in the bathhouse, where all the Ootori-sama gather around and bathe in that huge cauldron-like bath in the emerald-green water. They are ADORABLE. Again, birds + yellow color = my dream combo for the cutest anime characters :D

So, I decided to make a diorama cut-out scene from the movie and make that bathhouse into a papercraft and I love it so much ;_; just look at those adorable, fluffy, yellow, fat bellies!!!! To die for cute :D

The papercraft consist of many separate parts, such as: the 3D standing Ootori-sama, the 3 3D Ootori-sama heads submerged in the water, the 3D bath itself with optional overflowing 2D water streams, the 2 optional 3D wooden basins, the 3D stand with the wooden floor texture, as well as some 2D add-ons for the Ootori-sama, such as the leaf hat they wear when they enter the bath, and the washcloth. The whole thing is unfolded to a height of 12 cm and has 24 pages to print (with all optional parts).

Definitely making all these cuties with all options into an assembled piece, since I want it displayed in my workroom so bad! :D Hope you like it and happy crafting~
