As you guessed in my second »Guess the character/series« post correctly, I have made “Beatrice” from the anime “Re: Zero” this time.
This is another one of my “New Generation” ultra HD and precise papercraft, as I already did and announced with my Ryza Stout papercraft. Now, since she is from an anime, the textures in anime are usually more “flat” looking and it may seem as though she is not as detailed and well textured and Ryza, BUT she takes up a whooping 10 different texture maps, so believe me, SHE IS XD. That means 10 different detailed textures with all the details of her dress that I probably again made in 1 weeks’ worth of work with a few hours of texturing and modeling a day. I assure you, she is as crisp if not more than Ryza, and she should be 95% accurate as in the anime, be it in parts of her dress, her color-scheme or pose, 100% reference from the second season of Re: Zero (if you didn’t watch it, better do, because it’s really awesome).
Part of me wanting to do this papercraft was because she is shown in a totally different light in the 2. season and I really have sympathy for her story and fate and what she is doing and why (don’t want to spoil anything too much for those not watching the season). And the other part being that she has so much dress details on her and I love her character silhouette and hair, because it reminds me of my natural curls as well XD (no, my hair does not look like THAT, but I have natural curls since forever and I like them).
Since she is so detailed and since I am really proud of her as well, I unfolded her to a bigger 27 cm height scale, with the unfold being 29 pages with the extra book preps, and 21 pages if you only want to assemble Bea with her book in her hands.
She is made out of a 3D attached body, with a lot of extras and optional 2-sided sleeves, 2-sided braids and her 2-sided dress.
She also has, as already said, separately made 3D prep books (since she basically lives in her library and only reads books), that are a really simple boxy shape and you just glue the 2D covers on like that, and a special separate 3D book of hers called her “Gospel” that she carries in her hands, which has intentional blank pages as in the original. The gospel book, again, is 100% accurate, textured from the anime references, while the other random books in the background have textures that I chose to make randomly to fit in the scene.
Her bows are actually 2D that you bent to a 3D look and you just glue them together at the side parts and then on the body, so although it looks like those have a LOT of small details, they are really simple and easy to make.
The fingers and feet may be a bit fiddly, but since she has a really large dress around her waist that goes to her feet, she stands 100% even with those small feet with high-heels, since she has double support from the rim of the dress and the feet as well. Same can be said about the frills on her dress, not really hard to do, but very time-consuming all in all. But worth the assembly :)
Another feature are her simple 2D braids that you just glue on her head. For this I suggest to make the braids first and separately after you have done all of the 3D head parts of her and put them on last. The braids have some small flaps to glue the braids together on each layer, so it stands firmly as it should and the braids will not lose their form if they hang. Once you have the braids (with either just 1 braid or the optional 2-sided part glued on for better color as well), you cut a small line along the head where the hair should go and glue the flap on the inside of the head. Once it is glued on the inside of the head, you can reinforce it with tape or anything like that, and they should stand 100% firmly. Another tip for the hair is to use wires in them on the first tier of the braids so it also stands and you can glue the overhanging wire on the inside of the head with a small incision as well. That should stand 200% then :) and you got the option to move the braids to any angle.
And of course, since it’s a HD ultra-detailed papercraft, you also get to see the 3D papercraft preview here:
Enjoy the 3D preview and do take a closer look to see how gorgeous she is, and hopefully I will have time to assemble her myself and make pictures of her as well.
In the meantime, happy crafting everybody~
