Kasumizawa Miyu (Blue Archive) papercraft comm.

A Blue Archive papercraft commission of a different kind. Probably the most detailed papercraft I have made to date, because this Miyu 3D model I made for a PVC figure swap. Meaning the commissioner wanted me to make a 50 cm big Miyu figure, that has all the parts interchangeable and with a lot of detail, so it looks like a real plastic figure when assembled.

The idea was to make a detailed enough model, with all clothing and body parts being able to be swapped with a system of magnets at any given time. All the clothes and parts can be slid on/off as they are, without needing to bend or re-shape them.

This complex papercraft has almost 800 parts and the polygon count is probably 3 to 4-times as much as my normal 20 cm big human papercrafts would be. I had to figure out a whole new system to make this work, a lot of effort and time put into this, not just modeling, but the textures are probably the most detailed ones I made yet.

The figure has a whooping 14 different UV-maps, for each part its own hand-drawn texture, so the details, even at this size, will look pristine and crisp. Thankfully I had a lot of reference pictures and models online to base my model on, so that really helped in seeing how each part should look on her. Still, this took me 2 weeks to make, it was a lot! The unfold alone took me 3 days to finish, because of all the complex parts and limited space on the A4 pages they will be printed on. It was rough! But I persevered and the end result is simply stunning to look at. Love it (:

The papercraft is unfolded to a height of 50 cm and it has 70 pages to print out.

It consists of a base naked 3D model of Kasumizawa Miyu, and separate add-ons: the blouse, the skirt, the shoes, the panties, optional white stockings, her headgear and tactical gear, the riffle, optional gloved hands, and the stand with a trash can, a sparrow, her water jug, and a lot of 2D leaves.

Each part of the body is separate, as are the optional add-on items, because she is meant to have interchangeable parts to put on or off with a magnetic system that is added in the assembly process. The body is therefore divided into: the head with the hair, her 2 arms, the torso, her 2 legs and 2 feet.

This IS meant for more experienced and patient papercrafters, since the pose does demand you have to fill out her right leg for her to stand firmly, because the left leg is just tapping on the floor. But nothing too hard, since you have the PDO file with the preview of it to help you in any case.

And now it’s time to assemble this cutie and give you some pro-tips on how to make life simpler for yourself when doing these. Let’s go.

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

With any of my papercrafts, you can divide the assembly into separate parts: the head with the ears and hair, the coat, the 2 arms with the while sleeves, the cape, the upper torso, the legs, her 3D bag and the 2D halo.

If we start with the head, you assemble the face and neck first. Then you glue on the front hair, pre-build the 2 ears first and glue them on the front hair, and lastly close it with the back hair. After this, you can glue on the 2D head parts.

Next you can separately build the 2 arms, with either the 2D or 3D hands (note that I did the preview pics with the 2D version of the hands). When you got those, set them aside and start gluing together the 2 white sleeves and glue those together. When you have all these parts, glue together the whole coat part, and only then press the pre-made hands inside to glue them on the right angle. Once done, glue in the 2 arms at the right angle. And that’s done.

Next, you make the first 3 parts of the upper torso, and glue in the head you did before and make your way all down the torso and then glue on the dress as well. Once this is done, you can simply put glue on the remaining flaps of the torso, where the arms should be, and glue on the pre-made coat on there. And after this, you can then also glue on the blue scarf and close it by gluing it together in the back. Add the 2D items on here as well.

Next step is to make the legs. You do this part by assembling the legs from bottom to top and finish with the buttocks part. This means, build the whole sneakers first and leave the bottom sole part off for now. Next, build the first 3 parts of the legs, place them inside the sneakers and glue those 2 together like that. After the glue sets, close the sneaker soles, build the remaining legs and the butt.

And before anything, fill up the legs with some weights here, to make her really stand firmly (*Pro-tip: I always suggest smaller pebbles, since they are small enough to fit and heavy enough to help with the weight as well, without rupturing the paper itself). And when you have this part done, glue the legs on the dress.

All that is left is to is her simple bag and the halo. You can glue or just place the bag around her shoulder and it’s done. And you can either glue on the halo at the back of her head, or, like me, glue it on some wire and make it “float”. Done and done.

Since the new “Blue Archive” anime has started and I know people love this gacha game, I deiced to do the main heroine of the anime, the catgirl called “Shiroko” :)  

                  

The papercraft itself is unfolded to 27 cm and has 5 pages to print. A rather straightforward humanoid papercraft with 2D hair you can optionally close in the back, optional 2D or 3D hands, her simple 3D bag and some cute 2D simple add-ons she has.

I do recommend it for more experienced and patient papercrafters, since the pose does demand you have to fill out her right leg for her to stand firmly, because the left leg is just tapping on the floor. Since the new “Blue Archive” anime has started and I know people love this gacha game, I deiced to do my main cutie I myself think is the cutest, the NPC girl “Arona” :)

     

The papercraft itself is unfolded to 23 cm and has 4 pages to print. A rather straightforward humanoid papercraft with 2D hair you can optionally close in the back, optional 2D or 3D hands, an optional inner dress and some cute 2D simple ribbon add-ons she has.

I do recommend it for more experienced and patient papercrafters, since the pose does demand that you have to fill out her right leg for her to stand firmly, because the left leg is just tapping on the floor.
