Baron Ashura (Mazinger) papercraft commission

Another character from the 50-year-old anime that I bet nobody remembers, since the original one, including this person, came out in 1972! XD Of course I am talking about the grandfather of all mecha anime that came after, the one and only “Mazinger Z” series.

This unique-looking person is called “Baron Ashura”. The color-palette as well as the design is really uniquely 70s, 80s style Japanese anime, the contrasting colors as well as the unusual look really brings back nostalgia, so it was really fun designing this whole thing (as well as challenging).

The papercraft itself is a “lifesize” papercraft. I could really go crazy with the details here, more than with the normal 20-30 cm unfolds, so loved that.

The head, especially the half female, half male face is really detailed and high poly. Probably one of the highest polygon faces I have made from 0. I could make it that way, since it is unfolded to almost 2 meters, so it won’t be hard to glue together, since it’s going to be super big. But I had a lot of issues with the UV-map, since a high polygon count makes so damn messy maps to texture, so I had to sit on the face for quite a while to make it right. But I learned new skills, made something new, and the commissioner is happy with it as well (:

Needless to say, of course as ALL OF MY PAPERCRAFRS I SELL, I have modeled, posed, textured and unfolded it myself! 100% Antyyy, baby!

It’s going to be a HUUUGE thing, with many awesome details and a hella lot of work to do as well. Can’t wait to see this beast being done for the end of the year ceremony the commissioner has every time. Look forward to that and I’ll surely update the links when the preview is available.

And now it’s time to assemble her and give you some pro-tips on how to make life simpler for yourself when doing these. Let’s go.

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

 With any of my papercrafts, you can divide the assembly into separate parts: the head with the hair, the 2 hands, the white pullover with the sleeves, the skirt, the legs, and the separate backpack.

If we start with the head, you assemble the face and neck first. Then you glue on the front hair and lastly close it with the back hair.

Next you can separately build the 2 hands, with either the 2D or 3D versions (note that I did the preview pics with the 2D version of the hands). When you got those, set them aside and start gluing together the 2 white sleeves and glue those together. When you have all these parts, start gluing on the white pullover at the neck, and when you come to the sleeve parts, glue those on. When you have the whole pullover with the sleeves done, only then press the pre-made hands inside to glue them on the right angle. And the torso is done.

Next, you make the skirt part. The only part that needs pre-bending is the last skirt part, so put those folds in there to make it look nice a frilly and then glue the skirt together with the inner torso part.

Next step is to make the legs. You do this part by assembling the legs from bottom to top and finish with the buttocks part. This means, build the shoes first glue the leg from there upwards till you come to the butt.

And before anything, fill up the legs with some weights here, to make her really stand firmly (*Pro-tip: I always suggest smaller pebbles, since they are small enough to fit and heavy enough to help with the weight as well, without rupturing the paper itself).

All that is left is to do is to glue the backpack together like you would a simple box shape and glue all of these parts on.

Glue the skirt inside the torso first and then glue on the legs part inside the skirt, making sure to glue them at the right angle, so the figure can stand nicely. Glue on the backpack with the black strap at the right angle as well: And it's finished!

The new Gundam is out, called “Gundam GQuuuuuuX« XD try reading that out loud. Anyway, I like Gundam anime, mostly fort he gunpla models I love putting together :P but I also like the lore, so I though I would like to make the cute »Machu« pilot from the new series and here she is.

 The papercraft is unfolded to 20 cm and has 3 pages to print out.

It consists of a 3D model of Machu with a simple 2D skirt that has to be pre-folded into the typical school girl harmonica shape, simple 2D hair, her 3D backpack and some simple add-ons. All in all a straightforward human papercraft that should be simpler to make, since you can make all the hair beforehand and just glue it on the head and you also have optional 2D or 3D hands that go inside the sweater sleeves.

 She has a slightly bent leg, so it would be better to put weights inside those so she doesn’t tip over, but she should be standing on her own as well.

You always have a blank, locked PDO file included with any of my legit designs, free or premium, that I only share on my official pages, so you can be sure it has instructions and you can follow the simple 3D guide to assemble it for yourself.

*Note that I did make the preview pictures with the un-edited texture of the sweater, and the red stamp on it was added on and is now correct. You just don’t see it on the pictures.

This badass is called “Garada K7”. The color-palette as well as the design is really uniquely 70s, 80s style Japanese anime, the contrasting colors as well as the unusual look really brings back nostalgia, so it was really fun designing this whole thing (as well as challenging), because 1. I really don't do mechas at all 2. the pose had to be really linear, because it has to stand as a huge height and be really grounded and 3. you only got the 50-year-old anime to go on as reference, and the damn angles keep shifting and the proportions changing, so you got no idea how it actually looks like 100% XD had to go with my guts here).

The papercraft itself is a “lifesize” papercraft. Not really lifesize, since it’s probably 100 meters high in the anime, but it was unfolded to 2 meters! Probably THE coolest main character in Gundam to date, Suletta Mercury from “Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury”!

Season 2 starts now, so better sit in that chair and go watch the anime, it’s super cool :D And what better reason than making this adorable main heroine into a papercraft template as well!

           

The papercraft itself is unfolded to 20 cm and has 3 pages to print out. The papercraft is pretty basic to assemble for a humanoid papercraft, the fingers are fiddle, but she also has a pretty unique hairstyle, so best to consult that added blank PDO files when you purchase it and try to make it, so you know what piece goes where.

The hair was quite tricky to figure out how to make, so I am really proud of how original and close to the anime itself it looks. She also stands on 1 leg and on the tip of the other leg, so there shouldn’t be a problem of her standing, but you can always add in weights into the legs at the last moment, just to be sure she stands firmly.

This! This baby is from a whooping 50-year-old anime that I bet nobody remembers, since the original one, including this bad guy mecha, came out in 1972! Damn, that’s an old anime XD Of course I am talking about the grandfather of all mecha anime that came after, the one and only “Mazinger Z” series. Of course, many adaptations came after, and the old anime series was probably shown on TV 20 or 30 years later as well, but the respectable age is really something I don’t deal with every day. Better look it up yourselves, because I also had no idea about the anime when I got the commission XD Got to respect your elders in any case! :D

Anyway, this badass is called “Gratonios” aka Gemelos de la Muerte as translated in Spanish. As far as I remember the commissioner saying, this mecha was the first to defeat Mazinger, only to be later slain by Great Mazinger, that actually managed to kill the great beast.
