Howl's moving castle built papercraft

Told you at the release of this premium papercraft that I desperately need to make this beautiful man for myself, and here he is, in all his glory! “Howl” from one of the best Hayao Miyazaki movie masterpieces: “Howl’s Moving Castle”.

:bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink:

The assembly itself can be divided in 2 parts really, since the papercraft consists of a separate 3D Howl model and his separate 2D coat. I always start with the face, and make my way to the back of the head. In the back there is a small hole in the hair, so it’s easier to assemble the hair strains that way, yet is not visible in the end product. Make use of that and close the head at the hole part ;)

Next I started making the hands and arms separately and also the 2D necklace and the earrings, which you can put on last. When you got the arms, you can start making the neck and torso part. Built the whole upper white shirt on the head you did before, and once you have that, glue the arms inside the remaining holes. Most of the shoulder parts are not going to be visible when the coat is on, so it’s the easiest strategy. And when the whole upper body is glued together, you can also glue the necklace around him and the earrings with the ears.

Then you make your way further by gluing the leg parts on there, turning the craft upside-down and assembling it that way, so you have more maneuvering space to glue the parts on. And when you are about to finish closing up the shoes with the soles, you can add a few weights inside the legs, for it to be able to stand nicely (The coat is going to be quite heavy, so it’s all top-heavy and the extra weights help it stand better. As always, I suggest using smaller pebbles, since they are a perfect fit for any papercraft).

All that is left to do now is to make the separate coat. I made it by gluing the sleeves togheter first, and gluing the coat parts around those. Same with the inner sides of it, gluing them directly onto the outer coat, so it fits together perfectly. And when you have the whole coat done, you can easily slide it on the shoulders of the main Howl character and you are done.

PRO-TIP: The coat can be easily removed or added onto the Howl papercraft whenever you want, so you can choose to change its appearance once in a while as well. Versatile papercraft fashion, as I call it XD Or decide to use/not use it in the first place.

Howl's Moving Castle papercraft

This screenshots, let me tell you, do not do justice to this papercraft. I have spent so many hours on this baby, I am really proud of it. To get the face proportions right with a minimal number of polygons in the face is a real challenge, and then if you have somebody as handsome as Howl, you got to give it your best :D

Anyway, yes, my next project I am releasing, as you can probably see, is Howl from one of the best Ghibli movies of all times »Howl's moving castle«. I am a follower of quite a few groups on social media, and one of them keeps posting these damn sexy Howl pictures and screenshots all the time. So, I thought that if everybody is going crazy for this man for years after the original release and almost no figurines were made it him, that is a DAMN, DAMN SHAME. Hear me Ghibli? Go make some money or do people need to tell you how to do your work properly? XD

Anyway, since almost nothing like this exists, I decided to do a papercraft of him, in the most iconic welcoming pose, when he jumps from the balcony after meeting Sophie and running away. - And besides (as mentioned a few times before), too many girl papercrafts out there, and I always like to do things that nobody thinks of making. We need something for us girls to do as well. More male papercrafts need to be designed! Some really sexy ones for the ladies ;)

:bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink:

The papercraft itself is unfolded to 26 cm and has 6 pages to print. It consists of a 3D model of Howl, his separate jacket (that fits perfectly onto his shoulders) and the inner side of the jacket, as well as some of his iconic add-ons, such as the necklace, his green earrings and his ring.

Definitely, definitely need to make this myself, since I love the character, and the lines in the preview of the PDO make him look really weird, though the assembled template looks so cool and amazing. Everybody's got to see him in action and built in all his glory... sooo, maybeee, I got something already prepared for next week... who knows :P

:bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink: :bulletpink:

In the meantime, enjoy some Ghibli movies and make a movie night, have fun and happy crafting~

Yoh Asakura (Shaman King) built papercraft

The newly animated series »Shaman King« has ended, a new anime/special has already been announced (though we don’t know when it will air yet), so what better time than this to release my assembled Yoh Asakura & Amidamaru spirit ball papercraft I made ;) Let’s keep the Shamanic hype going!

:bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange:

As for the assembly, I started it as I do with all of my papercrafts, the head. I made the face first (since that is the money-maker XD), made my way to the head and build the nackside spiky hair. The hair is kind-of a mini nightmare in itself, since I really don’t like all those detailed spikes, BUT it’s all for the greater good at the end, making it look 100% original as in the anime. So, bear through this, since the spikes at the back are actually the hardest part to glue together.

Next, make your way downward and glue the neck and the rest of the torso together and leave that for now. You can then glue the remaining legs and feet parts on the naked torso, add the 2D belt on there and glue it, and leave this for a bit.

Once you got that biggest part done, build the arms with the shirt, the 2D necklace, the sandals, the Amidamaru spirit ball and the katana all separately, since you can join those together at the end. Start by gluing together the katana and Amidamaru in both hands (optionally you can leave Amidamaru and attach him with a needle/pin through the bottom part and the side of the hands fingers to make it float, like I did in the preview – looks like a real floating spirit ball and if you place it at the back, the needle is invisible and makes it look original). When you got that done, glue the whole arms with the shirt part on the flaps on the torso you made before, at the shoulders. Holds just fine, you can adjust the angle attaching it that way, and the assembly is 50% easier to make if you build the parts separate and just join them in the end. All that is left to do is to glue the geta sandals on his feet, adjusting the angle of the papercraft, so it can stand easily.

And the Shaman King papercraft is finished.

:bulletorange: :bulletorange: :bulletorange:

The tips may sound “difficult” when you are reading them on here, but once you use the included PDO and see for yourself how to make it, it makes 100% sense and it’s all shown there anyways :)

PRO-TIP: Note that the papercraft can stand by itself, with no extra weights. If you want to be really-really sure that it’s gonna stand in place, you can put in weights in the separate geta sandals when gluing on the last bottom part of them, to make it sturdier. I suggest using small pebbles as weights, since they are small enough to fit in the holes, and are not heavy enough to break the paper apart but are still heavy enough to support the standing papercraft.

Hope you like the Shaman King papercraft and you have fun assembling your own crafts as well. Hopefully we get that release date of the new anime/special of Shaman King announced as well.

Till then, happy crafting~
