White Blood Cell / Hakkekkyuu built papercraft

Since we started this year’s anime season with not 1 but 2 different seasons of "Hataraku Saibou" or "Cells at Work", I thought I would make the last one of my Hataraku designs that was left for me to build, and this is "Hakkekkyuu" or "White Blood Cell" :)

I wanted to build the original one, since I made the design with 2 different textures, so I had to make the blood-splatter one, ‘coz it’s just too funny XD I love how he’s always so hyped to kill those bacteria and viruses, so this one was the one I wanted to display XD

I started off by making the cap first really, since I love these small cappies and I wanted to play with it and put it on my other papercrafts and anime figurines XD damn I am allowed some fun ;P (The cap is detachable and fits on the head without glue, so you don’t need to glue it on, and you can play with it and take it on and off if you wish, just like me :D I am a big kid, what can I say). After I got that out of my system, I made the face with the neck first, same procedure as always, and from there made my way back attaching all the hair on it.

When the head was finished, I made the 2 separate hands, and then the arms. Once you have the arms, you can just glue the hands inside of them, since the inside where it’s glued together is not visible at the end, so it’s simpler that way. Just pick the right angle for them and glue them together. Once I had the arms, I made the upper torso part with the white jacket. On the jacket came the arms, and once the upper torso is made, you attach the pre-built head on it from the inside of the torso, making it nice and neatly closed. Always, after I have such humanoid papercrafts, I reinforced the inner neck part with rolled-up paper bits, so it was sturdy and the head doesn’t knick-in.

Once you got the upper body, you can make the separate legs with the boots. Same procedure here, since it’s easier to start from the bottom with feet, I first made the 2 boots, and then the legs. After I got the legs done, simply put glue on the end flaps of the feet and glue the boots on like that (same principle as with the hands, since the part where they are glued together is not seen at the end).

Once the boots and legs are glued together, you can put some additional weights into the legs if you so wish, but it was sturdy enough to stand as it was, so I didn’t put any in and just glued the legs onto the previously made upper body with the head, and the main body with the pose was done.

The only fiddly parts are now the additional 2D parts and the 3D knives. The knives are actually the fiddliest part of the papercraft, since Hakkekkyuu is unfolded to about 33 cm and there are no real fiddly small parts on the main 3D body, not even the fingers, since they are really big and easy to put together. So, the knives are the time-consuming part where you need the concentration. The handles are 3D, so those need to be put neatly together. All in all, there are 4 knives, 2 on his back in the holsters, and 2 in his hands. Once you got those pesky little handles together, you glue the 2-sided 2D knife blades together, glue them, and glue the end part on the 3D holster. Since the edge of the 2D blade would show, I made small straight incisions with my scalpel and glued the end parts of them inside the 3D handle. That way you don’t have the edge seam and it looks like a real blade. When I did that with all 4 of them, you can put the knives in place. The knives stand in his hands if you build them tight enough, so there is no need to glue any of the 4 on him, but you can do so in the hands so they don’t fall off.

And at the end all that is left are the simple 3D holsters for the knives, the 2D shoelaces, the 2D pockets and all the 2D belts around his body. Those should be the finishing touches, since else you can’t glue those on right unless you got the whole White Blood Cell’s body glued together.

And there you go, a fully functional White Blood Cell assembled papercraft XD I think he looks originally malicious, and the poses where he attacks are really funny, so I had to do it in that pose.
