Dragons people, dragons. Who doesn’t like these mythical majestic beauties? I felt inspired by pictures of them I saw on a page and decided to do my own version of one, just for fun really.
I started off making it and it looked more like a snake really, and then I added the wings, feet and stand etc. So, at the end of the modeling process I had a sort of a mix between a snake and a dragon, so I decided to name it “Snake Dragon”, so you know the story behind the name XD It’s not a real Chinese dragon, it’s not a real dragon from the Middle Ages, it’s not even a Wyvern or any subspecies like that, it's just my snake dragon, and that's it XD And of course it’s my original character, designed, textured and modeled 100% by me, made just the way I wanted.
I am also really happy with the color-pallet and the textures in general. Mostly, when I make original characters, the most difficult thing is to imagine what colors would suit the form best, and I think going classic black here really made it shine, along with the somewhat different blue mouth and the emerald green eyes that pop out. I also made sure to make the body of the dragon scaly-like and made sure to add different-looking scales on the body (in textures), so it shows what color it is supposed to have. Really nice and detailed. Same goes with the stand, where I drew the wood texture for the perches and the flames that ACTUALLY look like flames as well XD
As for the papercraft, I unfolded that to about 23 cm and it has 15 pages to print (9 of which are for assembling the dragon only, without stand and fire). The template has a 3D dragon with 2D 2-sided wings and a separate 3D stand (because of the claw-like feet, which aren’t really made for standing, so he needs the perches to stand on) with awesomely cool simple 2D 2-sided flames for the stand around it, that really makes the dragon fierce-looking ;)
Since it has a really love snake-like body, it probably takes some time to make it. The fiddly parts would be the wings, since they are 2-sided and you need to glue them on the 3D wing stumps and then the body, and maybe the cylindrical perches, since they are attached to each other on the stand to make it sturdy. All in all, I would say it’s probably a 7/10 to make.
Also note that the dragon has really thin whiskers. I did add them in the unfold, but I do imagine that thin wire would look more awesome and you can bend it in shape and color it black (if it’s not black already). So, it’s kind of an optional part that shows you how it can look like with whiskers.

I hope all of you dragon-lovers out there like him, I do try to make a variety of papercrafts I can think of and want to make, but as you can see the design, if made right, is verrrry time-consuming. If you have any suggestions, critics or overall wishes of what papercrafts you would like me to do next or more of, comments are always appreciated. So, write down below what you would like to see or write me a note here or message me in my FB group.
