Iono (Pokemon SV Gym Leader) built papercraft

Iono (Pokemon SV Gym Leader) built papercraft

I already posted the template preview of this cutie and you can view it here:

And now you also have the assembly preview and some tips along the way.

*As with any of my papercraft templates, the blank PDO is always included in these files, so you help yourself with the 3D preview in Pepakura to assemble it, but I like to post a bit of experience I have with building papercrafts to maybe make things easier for less experienced papercrafters and share ideas on how to make it simpler.

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

Before we start WARNINGThis papercraft is harder to make than other humanoid papercrafts, so I suggest this papercraft for more experienced papercrafters only. The hair and head part are fiddly and it needs to be reinforced from the inside of the legs to be able to stand.

Best to start it, as with any of my crafts, is at the top and make your way down to the bottom. So, you can divide the assembly into many smaller parts that can be made separate from each other. You got: the 2 braids, the head with the neck, both arms with the torso, the legs with the bottom, the 2 shoes, the 2D yellow coat, the 2 Magnemite pins, and the 3D stand.

Easiest route: Start by making the face and the whole head, along with the neck and first shoulder piece. Make the front bangs of the hair separate and glue them on the face, and then make your way to the back of the hair. When you come to the back, *pro-tip 1: reinforce the neck part with curled-up paper inside the neck. That way the neck won’t snap because of the hair weight and you can move it without a worry.

Then, you need to make the 2 braids of the hair by gluing 1 by 1 flap on the pre-made hair part you did. Glue 1 by 1, make it neat and tight and when you glue the braids on the head: *pro-tip 2: reinforce the part where you glue on the braids to the head by taping them from the inside with slim tapes so it holds on the head. Do this with all 6 strains of the 2 pink and blue braids and go from top to bottom when you are closing them. That way, the braids will hold and won’t fall off the head because of their weight.

When you have this, make the bottom braid buns separately and simply glue them with the pre-bent flaps inside the hole and close them that way.

Next, you can make the 2 separate arms and when you have them, build the bussom part of the torso on the head part you just did. Then the torso is made, glue on the pre-made arms on there and build the remaining gray part of the toso. Now that you have the upper part, you can assemble the 2 Magnemite pins on the head with their smaller parts as well and add the bow.

Then comes the legs and shoe part, which are both done separately. And after this, you make the 3D stand as well and make sure it’s sturdy. You can *pro-tip 3: put in some weights before closing it or cut out some thicker cardboard and glue it inside so it’s hard and holds its shape.

Next, glue both shoes on the stand at the right angle. *Pro-tip 4: you need to poke a small hole in the inside of the hanging shoe from the inside and pierce the shoe right through to the center of the stand. Take a thinner popsicle stick or join 6,7 wires together and make a long wire out of it. This stick or wire now needs to be put through the shoe and stand hole and needs to be at least 10 cm long so it will hold the leg part together and make the whole papercraft stand.

Slide the legs part onto the stick/wire and glue them inside the shoes. Next, *pro-tip 5: you also need to fill out the legs part with some weights as well, so the papercraft figure doesn’t tip over in the end. Do this by putting in some small gravel inside them till it’s half-filled.

Now, you join the legs part by gluing them on the torso part. Glue them in the middle where the gray upper torso meets with the black legs part and position it at the right angle so it doesn’t tip over and can stand. Since you put in the stick/wire, it will lean on that and the papercraft is able to stand.

All that is left to do is to build the optional yellow coat. This is best done by assembling the 2 sleeves separately, sliding them on the papercraft and joining them together on the figure itself, since it won’t fit if you make the whole coat and close it before. So, be sure to only close it at the back on Iono itself, and there you go. Iono is finished.

And since she is such a cutie, I also decided to assemble her myself and give some assembly tips along the way, so here we go :)

:bulletblue: :bulletblue: :bulletblue: :bulletblue:

ASSEMBLY TIPS:

The Ichonose Asuna chibi is a simple chibi humanoid craft that is best assembled in smaller separate parts to then glue together. Best way is to make the arms separately, the whole hair separately and then the head with the body.

Start by making the hair, put aside and make the body, by first starting with the head. After the head is done, move along downward and then you have half the torso done, you can glue on the separate 2 hands you made beforehand. And then simply follow it down, make each leg and finish that. Once the whole body is done, I really suggest putting in weights inside the legs, so *Pro-tip: I always say, the best weights I found for papercraft are small pebbles. They are small enough to fit inside the papercraft parts you want to weight down, they don’t rip up the paper or deform it, and at the same time they weight just enough to make the craft stand like an ace. Really neat to use those, trust me and try it.

And when you have the body filled with weights, put glue on the flaps on the head, the head top and some on the right top side and slide on the hair part. That way, it will look bomb and it’s really easier to assemble it than if you had the hair attached in the beginning.

--------

For the basket and the eggs there isn’t anything to say really, but to follow the PDO file. They are really simple to make and make sure to close the eggs with the bottom part with no flaps so it’s easier.

--------

For the 2 bunnies, I suggest to take your time. The papercraft includes 2 bunnies, I made the white on in the preview pics, since both are basically the same. They are smaller and have fiddly pieces, so you need to take your time and go at it slowly. I suggest to make the bunny by first making: the 2 ears, the 2 hands, the 2 feet and the tail all separately. That way, you can glue them on at the end of the assembly, as I did, to make it easier.

Be sure to start the body with the head and move down. Add the arms and legs when you get the parts that they are attached to them done and glue them as you are making the body. And at the end, you glue the ears and the tail inside the left holes as I did. That way, you get the thing done easier and they will fit nicely inside the holes. And you can also glue on the black whiskers, or do those with wire and attach that on, if you like.

And done :)
